Mitsubishi Delica From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search This article incorporates text translated from the corresponding Japanese Wikipedia article as of October 30, 2010. Mitsubishi Delica Manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors Production 1968–present Class Automobile Body style(s) Truck Van People carrier The Mitsubishi Delica is a range of trucks and multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) built by Mitsubishi Motors since 1968. It was originally based on a small pickup truck introduced the previous year, also called the Delica, its name derived from the English "DELIvery CAr".[1] This truck, and a commercial van derived from it has received many names in export markets, being sold as the L300 in Europe, Express in Australia, and plain Mitsubishi Van and Wagon in the US. The passenger car versions were known as Delica Star Wagon from 1979 until the 1994 introduction of the Delica Space Gear. The most recent version (not available as a commercial vehicle) is called the Delica D:5. In Japan, commercial Delica Cargos were simply badge-engineered Mazda Bongos between November 1999 and 2010. Using a KE44 1,088 cc engine producing 58 PS (43 kW; 57 hp), its maximum payload was 600 kg (1,323 lb) and had a top end speed of 115 km/h (71 mph). A year later, in line with consumer needs, a cargo van and a passenger van were added to the lineup. The passenger van, discontinued in 1976, was called the 'Delica Coach' and could seat nine people in three rows of seats. In March 1971 a slightly facelifted version, called the Delica 75, arrived. This (the T120) received a small grille rather than the naked metal front of the earliest Delicas, and a new 86 hp 1.4 liter 4G41 Neptune engine (also seen in the Galant FTO) was added to the lineup. After a fall 1974 facelift, the Delica 1400 received a new nose with lots of plastic cladding and double headlights. A longer wheelbase version (T121) was added in 1976. In the export, this car was sometimes called simply the Colt T100 / T120. [edit] Second generation (1979) Mitsubishi Delica Manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors Also called Mitsubishi Delica Star Wagon Mitsubishi L300 Mitsubishi Colt Solar (RI)[2] Production 1979–86 Length 3,990–4,015 mm (157.1–158.1 in) Width 1,690 mm (66.5 in) The Delica series was replaced in June 1979 by an all new design, bringing overall width up to the maximum 1,690 mm dictated by Japanese regulations for 'compact vehicles'.[3] The line-up was expanded to include ten model variations encompassing a wide variety of passenger, cargo and recreational applications. A four-wheel drive option was made available in 1982, a first in the Japanese van market. Engines were all four-cylinders well known from MMC's passenger cars and included the 1,439 cc, 80 PS (59 kW) Saturn 4G33. 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 liter petrol versions (1,597 cc 4G32 and 1,795 cc Sirius 4G62, 1,997 cc Sirius 4G63B) were also available.[4] A 2.3 liter diesel (4D55) appeared in 1982 and was replaced by the larger 4D56 (2.5) in 1986. This generation is still in production in Indonesia as the 'Mitsubishi Colt Solar L300', equipped with the 2.5-litre 4D56 diesel engine. [edit] Third generation (1986) Mitsubishi Delica Manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors Also called Mitsubishi L300 Mitsubishi Express (AUS) Mitsubishi Cargo Van, Versa Van Mitsubishi Van/Wagon (US)[2] Dodge 1000 (MEX) Production 1986–present Assembly Nagoya, Japan Cainta, Rizal, Philippines Caracas, Venezuela[5] Layout Mid engine, rear-/four-wheel drive Platform P01V-P35W Engine(s) 1,439 cc 4G33 I4 1,597 cc 4G32 I4 1,795 cc 4G62 I4 1,997 cc 4G63 I4 2,351 cc 4G64 I4 2,476 cc 4D56 turbodiesel I4 Transmission(s) 4-speed auto, 5-speed manual Wheelbase 2,235–2,435 mm (88.0–95.9 in) Length 4,380–4,780 mm (172.4–188.2 in) Width 1,690 mm (66.5 in) Height 1,840–1,955 mm (72.4–77.0 in) In June 1986 the Delica underwent its third full model change. More aerodynamic than previous versions, its monocoque body and extensive safety features proved very popular in Japan's fast-growing recreational vehicle market segment. Passenger versions continued to be sold as Delica Star Wagons. Although the subsequent L400 Delica and Delica Space Gear were introduced in 1994, the Star Wagon still remained in production in 2007.[6]. A large range of engines were available, from a 1.4 liter petrol up to a 2.5 liter turbodiesel. Rear- or four-wheel drive, several bodystyles and two wheelbases made for a particularly extensive lineup. The four-wheel drive chassis was based on that of the contemporary Mitsubishi Pajero, although parts are seldom interchangeable. From 1987 until 1990, Mitsubishi sold this model in small numbers in the USA as the "Wagon" for passenger versions and "Van" for windowless cargo versions.[7] The US versions all received a 107 hp (80 kW) version of the 2.4 litre 4G64 engine. For model years 1990 and 1991 an LS version of the Wagon was added.[8] This version sold in Australia as the "Express", while a version sold in Mexico is badged as a Dodge 1000.[9] Face-lifted Delica Star Wagon pre-facelift Delica Truck [edit] Fourth generation L400 Delica Space Gear (1994) Mitsubishi Delica L400 Manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors Also called L400 Production 1994–2007 Engine(s) 4D56 2.5 L TD I4 4G64 2.4 L I4 4M40 2.8 L TD I4 6G72 3.0 L V6 Wheelbase 2,800–3,000 mm (110.2–118.1 in) Length 4,595–5,085 mm (180.9–200.2 in) Width 1,695 mm (66.7 in) Height 1,855–2,070 mm (73.0–81.5 in) Curb weight 1,690–2,170 kg (3,700–4,800 lb) [edit] 1993–1996 The fourth generation is based on the chassis of the Mitsubishi Pajero and has full off road capabilities, with four-wheel drive, high and low ratio gears and differential locking. It has engine variations from 2.5 litres through to a 2.8 L intercooled turbodiesel. A 2.4 L and a 3.0 L V6 petrol engine with 12 or 24 valves, each with 4 gears and overdrive. Apart from the 2.8 L diesel model they are available as a two or a four wheel drive version. Body specifications range from XR, XG, Exceed, Super Exceed and Royal Exceed, and both long and short wheelbase versions were available. [edit] 1996–2007 In 1996/1997 the Delica Space Gear was upgraded with a facelift model. The upgrade is mostly cosmetic with changes to the lighting clusters and front bodypanel, with the integration of a moulded bumper in place of the original three section bullbar. The engine was upgraded with an electronic control type distribution type jet pump and an electronic sidestep was made standard on the higher specification versions. Based on a new global GS platform, new Delica features Mitsubishi's next-generation RISE safety body. It was released in Japan on January 31, 2007, with prices ranging from Â¥2,614,500 to Â¥3,412,500.[11] [edit] Production Year Japan Philippines Taiwan China 1995 109,930 n/a n/a 1996 88,978 n/a n/a 1997 69,495 n/a n/a 1998 34,614 n/a n/a 1999 17,758 n/a n/a 2000 28,242 2,918* 8,125 2001 12,965 2,079* 5,133 690 2002 17,456 2,925* 4,192 600 2003 13,011 3,529* 5,166 13,710 2004 16,432 2,826* 3,862 16,074 2005 16,444 3,685* 2,315 5,960 2006 16,041 3,992* 1,160 - 2007 14,824 4,580* 1,115 - *L300 only. Advantages: mpg, what comes as standard, handling....Disadvantages: speakers could be more powerful I hadn't ever come across the space star prior to me keeping an eye out for a new car a few years ago, but it stuck out at the dealers due to its pretty metallic blue paint and alloys. (appeals more to the ladies perhaps....?) To my surprise it had many safety/ features as standard, all of which are attractive and simple to use and reliable (I have yet had a knob come off in my hand...) making it very practical, it is also deceptively spacious, ideal ......4 years ago I have not had a single problem with it, mechanical or otherwise. All in all i love this car and couldnt do without, im so glad we chose this compared to others on the market. On our first few days of use, the LCD TV monitor cracked at the hinge but the dealer promised to replace it. Don't know why but the 2003 model no longer has the stock molded mud guards from the previous model. If you drive in the rain, the mud splashes all over the sides of the car. Bummer. The auto transmission is good. You can hardly feel the shifting of gears. There's also ......gears. Great for downshifting on curvy mountain roads. The hand grips on the driver and front passenger side are made of cheap plastic that have sharp parts that can cut your hand. The driver's position is good. All controls within reach. I write from the perspective of an older female driver who wants to get from A to B in safety, comfort and without breaking the bank. My Space Star is still quite powerful for its size, with a responsive 1.8 litre engine. It has delivered ......cost nothing in repairs or replacements. I do about 15,000 miles a year on some very rural roads combined with journeys of 400 miles or so. It carries a three year warrenty, and servicing costs are much less than I had become used to. This is an easy car to drive with the facility to adjust sitting position and steering column to accommodate a 34 inch inside leg measurement! We bought in December 2000 - a nice little metallic green 1.3GLX from our local main dealer (Marshalls in Cambridge). We paid a fair price and haggled and got a good deal. At the time there were no special offers - but it didn't matter as they had the car in stock and were keen to mee their monthly target. Anyway, we p/ex'ed our old fiat and away we went. Plenty ......time it was only one) - and even space with 2 dogs and a toddler now - it's been great on that front. Where has it not been so great. Well - servicing costs were a tad expensive to be honest. Main dealers always are - but the major service of £250 for oil, plugs, filters, brake fluid, coolant and a general check over was expensive. On the whole, the dealer servicing was expensive, but they always are. They did an OK job, but the parts in my opinion ... delamarelyon 23.02.2007 · Read full review Ciao members have rated this review on average: helpful Review of Mitsubishi Space Star 1.3 Road HandlingComfort More popular products » Samsung UE40C7000 40 in inches - 16:9 - Resolution: 1920 - 1080 - with Full HD (1080p) Samsung YP-Q3 8 GB Portable Media Player Samsung UE46C6540 LCD - 46 in inches - 16:9 - Resolution: 1920 - 1080 Dell Studio 17 good performance wise, good exterior look, grat for multimedia use (*) Vaseline Lip Therapy with Aloe Vera A little piece of heaven for your lips (*) Morphy Richards Accents Jug Kettle Legends Collection, The - Jerry Lee Lewis 2 CD(s) - Rock 'N' Roll - Label: Dressed To Kill - Released: 25/02/2002 - 666629148624 Winning Moves Top Trumps Moshi Monsters Card Game Toshiba Satellite Pro C650D-10X Notebook - 15.6 in - CPU: V series, Athlon II, Core i3, Celeron - 2.2 GHz, 2.1 GHz, 2.13 GHz - RAM: 2 GB, 4 GB, 1 GB - Battery run time: 3.8 hour(s), 4.3 hour(s) Thicker Fuller Hair Moisturizing Shampoo World Of Goo (PC) Genre: Puzzle Sennheiser PXC 250 Great value for money. What things have gone wrong with the car? Nothing so far in first year. Had to replace battery. General comments? I bought a '94 Delica Space Gear 2.8l TDi Super Exceed in Queensland in December last year and am extremely happy. (You do need a mouthful to describe them with their full title tho) :) These are a grey-import in Australia, but they are basically a Starwagon (released in Aus. as 2wd, petrol) body on Pajero running gear and motor.Did a fair bit of research before and with 4 kids and an interest in 4WDriving... this is the one for us. Mainly because of low Klms, dual range 4WD, roomy 7+ seaters, Diesel motor (4M40) should last for ever, and they seem to have been immaculately kept! The one I got delivered here to Melbourne looked like it had hardly been out of the garage let alone off road! and it had 65,000klm on the clock. On top of that, I saved on stamp duty because Qld SD is half that of Vic SD, and then discovered a years Rego. down here in Vic is about $100 less than in QLD.The only negatives I've heard have all related to the earlier - pre'94 models, which was a completely different design and 2.5l motor. Also the occasional expensive part that you can't replace with a Pajero or Starwagon part - but I guess the rest and the quality generally and savings on the original purchase price should make up for that.To say nothing of 'cult' type following they're starting to attract - well they are something a bit different, and quite a head-turner.Speaking of that, I set-up a quick MSN Group/community web-site the other night for Delica Owners in Australia - http://groups.msn.com/DelicaOwnersAustraliaInternetClub - it's very basic compared to sites like this, but I'm not trying to compete, just share some info. with other like-minded Delica owners, and maybe save the occasional dollar on locating parts and services for members. Have a look and join if interested - the more the merrier! 12 comments Fix the spelling and grammar Delete this review Recommended reviews 1995 - Delica Exceed 1.7 turbo dieselA great family car 1994 - Delica L400 Exceed 2.8 turbo dieselA tamed monster truck that's great fun to drive All 1994 Mitsubishi Delica reviews Would you buy another car from this manufacturer?
